Allegeny, PA - The 13th March Friday proved to be anything but quiet for the volunteers of Station 315, as crews responded to a series of demanding incidents throughout the day.
The afternoon began with a fallen tree that brought down wires and forced the closure of Rich Hill Road. Shortly after, 315 Rescue received a direct call from a passerby reporting a large brush fire on a hillside along Guys Run Road, just into Indiana Township. Crews requested assistance from Indiana Township companies and were able to extinguish the fire before it could spread further.
No sooner had that incident been contained than the Rescue company was dispatched to what was initially reported as a fence fire. Upon arrival, 315 Chief determined the fire involved an uninhabited shed. Having depleted their water supply during the previous call, crews attempted to connect to a nearby hydrant, which unfortunately failed. A tanker was requested, and the fire was quickly brought under control upon its arrival.
After returning to Station 315, crews were immediately called out again—this time for a large brush fire in Penn Hills. Utilizing their UTV, personnel operated on scene for approximately four hours until all hotspots were contained and the unit was able to return to service.
Throughout the day, Station 315 crews deployed 125 feet of 5-inch LDH supply line, stretched a total of 400 feet of 1¾-inch hose, and utilized the UTV hose reel multiple times.
Station 315 extends its gratitude to the Blawnox Volunteer Fire Company for standing by during operations, and continues to commend its volunteers for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to protecting the community and supporting mutual aid partners.
