This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

CASTORLAND, NY — February 20th — In response to a car collision with a reported entrapment on New York State Route 26 in the Town of Lowville, the Castorland Fire Co. provided mutual help to the Lowville Fire Department. Rescue, Utility, and Engine 2 units were sent out. Firefighters used Engine 2's hydraulic rescue equipment to help Lowville firefighters extricate. During the procedure, a 1½-inch handline was stretched and charged as a safety line.

At the request of command and the New York State Police, utility crews also helped close the road near Boshart and Sharp roads. Castorland units were released and put back into operation following the removal of both victims from the vehicles. For departments around Lewis County, mutual aid cooperation is still crucial.
