BRISTOL, NY — February 27th — With automatic mutual help from the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters from the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department went to a reported vehicle fire on Onnalinda Drive. When Chief Brown got there, he saw flames coming from a car that was parked approximately four feet away from a house. While a second line guarded the adjacent house, engines 411 and 412 extended an attack line to put out the fire.
The Veterans Affairs Fire Department was called in to help with the response, which was raised to a structure fire assignment due to the vehicle's close proximity to the facility. Crews from Bristol set up a water supply by installing roughly 1,600 feet of hose from County Road 16. The car in question was a hybrid, which poses risks due to lithium-ion batteries and high-voltage components.
