TOWNSEND, MA - Townsend firefighters battled a stubborn fire on Main Street, March 12th.

Companies arrived to find smoke showing from the large two-and-a-half story wood-frame and made an aggressive interior attack, but were drawn out due to rapidly changing fire conditions. Command struck the second and third alarms, bringing in mutual aid to the scene.

Due to hoarding conditions and difficult access, more companies were needed and command struck the fourth and fifth alarms. Companies remained on scene for several hours chasing the fire in the walls. An excavator had to be brought in to extinguish the remaining fire.

Companies remained on scene throughout the night monitoring the fire.
