Chimney Fire Damages Plainview Home, Family of Five Displaced

Plainview, NY - On 23 February 2026, a house fire caused by a chimney or fireplace incident damaged a residence at 81 Morton Boulevard in Plainview on Monday afternoon, displacing a family of five.


Nassau County Fire Communications (NC FIRECOM) received a 911 call reporting the fire at approximately 12:03 p.m. The Plainview Fire Department responded immediately and arrived on scene within minutes. The operation was led by Chief Andrew Cohen.


Firefighters from Bethpage, Syosset, Hicksville, Jericho, Melville, and Westbury fire departments provided mutual aid, bringing the total number of responders to about 60 firefighters.


According to officials, all residents had safely self-evacuated before emergency crews arrived. Smoke alarms in the home were present and functioned as required.


No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within 45 minutes.


Investigators from the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office and Nassau County Police Department Arson/Bomb Squad responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities say the fire is not considered suspicious.


The home sustained significant damage, and the Town of Oyster Bay Building Department was called to assess the structure.


Two adults and three children who lived in the home have been displaced as a result of the fire.
