February 3, 2026 — At approximately 1:50 p.m., Bay Creek Fire Departments, including Silver Creek and Sunset Bay, were dispatched to the area of Burgess Street and Robinson Street in the Village of Silver Creek for a reported unknown type fire.
District Chief C170 arrived on location at the same time as dispatch and reported heavy black smoke and flames coming from behind a grape vineyard, establishing command. C191 arrived shortly after and assumed operations.
UTV 171 was able to access the scene early with personnel and determined firefighters were dealing with a collapsed structure-type building or large shed and a fully involved pickup truck. Due to deep snow and the location of the fire—approximately 500 feet from the roadway—the Village DPW assisted by using a payloader to plow an access path so fire apparatus and crews could reach the scene.
Engine 174 and Engine 192 deployed an attack line to extinguish the fire while crews from both departments worked together to overcome the difficult conditions. UTV 171 was also used as a shuttle unit, transporting equipment and personnel to and from the scene.
Firefighters remained on location for approximately an hour and a half. Crews were able to contain the fire to the structure and vehicle, preventing damage to nearby campers and other vehicles on the property.
Unfortunately, several pets were lost in the fire.
