East Kingston, NY — February 7th — A suspected sofa fire inside a home prompted the East Kingston Volunteer Fire Company to react. In order to deploy more personnel to the scene, incident headquarters requested a second alarm in response to early reports of smoke and fire conditions. After entering and seeing the flaming couch, firefighters swiftly put out the fire and looked about to see whether it had spread. In order to stop the spread, crews also removed damaged furniture and ventilated the building.

Ulster Hose, Glasco, Sawkill, Rhinebeck, City of Kingston FAST, and Esopus firefighters were among the mutual aid organizations that provided assistance. For extra calls, the Ruby and Port Ewen fire departments offered station coverage in East Kingston. During the incident reaction, Central Hudson, Empress EMS, the Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit, and the Ulster Town Highway Department also provided assistance.
