East Rockaway, NY - The East Rockaway Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on the afternoon at the corner of Baisley Avenue and Dart Street. First Assistant Chief Matt Pignataro arrived on scene quickly and discovered a two-story private residence heavily involved in fire on all floors. A working fire (Signal 10) was immediately transmitted.

Engine 404 was the first engine to arrive, securing a water source and beginning efforts to extinguish the blaze. Additional responding units included Ladder 403, Engine 405, Engine 406, Heavy Rescue 407, Ambulance 408, and Ambulance 4081, all of which operated at the scene.

Firefighting operations were complicated by the advanced stage of the fire, which had compromised the flooring throughout the structure. One occupant was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, while one firefighter was treated and released at the scene.

Mutual aid was provided by the Lynbrook Fire Department, Oceanside Fire Department, Rockville Centre Fire Department, Hewlett Fire Department, and the Nassau County Police Department. Woodmere Volunteer Fire Department, Island Park Volunteer Fire Department, and Lakeview Fire Department stood by in the village for additional alarms during the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Nassau County Police Department Arson Bomb Squad.
