One Car Flees Following Rollover Crash in Whitman

WHITMAN, MASSACHUSETTS (PLYMOUTH COUNTY) - Around 2140 hours on the evening of Friday, January 14, 2022 the Whitman Fire Department responded to the area of 29 Plymouth Street for a reported motor vehicle accident with a rollover. Whitman Engine-243, Ambulance-248 and Car-3 responding. Companies arrived to find a single vehicle on Plymouth Street (Route-58) on its roof.

The occupant of the vehicle was self extricated when firefighters arrived. Initially refusing transport, the lone occupant of the vehicle on its roof decided to be transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. There was a report that there was another vehicle involved in the motor vehicle accident, but the other vehicle appeared to had fled the scene.

Police discovered a car matching the description of the other vehicle with a smashed front end in a parking spot at 55 Plymouth Street, a new condominium development at the intersection with South Avenue. Police requested a K-9 to assist after they could not locate anyone from that vehicle. After a brief search, police located two people who were in the motor vehicle at the time of the crash. One was transported to a local hospital via a Hanson ambulance, who responded mutual aid.

The cause of the motor vehicle accident is under investigation by the Whitman Police Department with the assistance of the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office BCI unit.
