COLUMBIA COUNTY, FL — February 28th — Over the course of two days, Columbia County Fire Rescue firefighters from A and B Shifts responded to two out-of-control brush fires that burned approximately 50 acres in total.
Firefighters collaborated with the Florida Forest Service and Suwannee County Fire Rescue to keep the flames contained and from spreading farther. Officials stated that dry conditions and wind can quickly cause small outdoor fires to escalate into larger disasters. A burn restriction remains in effect throughout Columbia County, and homeowners are advised to avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve and the order is lifted.
