Tioga, PA - On February 9th, Department 6 was dispatched to the library for an automatic fire alarm activation. Chief 6 responded and was advised that it was a general fire alarm with water flow in Zone 0. Lieutenant 6 arrived on scene and reported nothing showing on the A side, with an audible alarm activated. Chief 6 arrived shortly thereafter, conducted a 360-degree size-up, reported nothing showing on all sides, and established command. Engine 6-2 also responded.
Upon further investigation, crews identified an activated sprinkler head in the entrance room. Personnel entered the building to confirm there was no active fire and to shut off the water supply in order to limit water damage. These actions were completed within minutes. Members conducted multiple checks using thermal imaging cameras to ensure there was no hidden fire.
The library staff, sprinkler company, and alarm company were notified. Fire department personnel remained on scene until the sprinkler company arrived, as the building was without fire protection until repairs could be made. Once on scene, the sprinkler company corrected the issue and recharged the system. The alarm company was notified, and the system was placed back in service.
