Around 3:00 p.m. on February 8, teams from the South Jackson Fire Department, Arcade Fire Department, Jefferson Fire Department, and Jackson County Correctional Institution responded to McBar Acres Road for a reported outbuilding and woods fire.

When firemen arrived, they discovered a 20-by-30-foot outbuilding completely engulfed in flames, which were spreading into the forests and threatening surrounding structures. Strong winds drove embers into surrounding meadows, resulting in multiple spot fires and widening the incident area. Crews deployed multiple handlines and worked across the fireground to contain the structure fire and prevent it from spreading to the neighboring forests. After putting out the spot fires produced by floating embers, firefighters were able to contain the situation. Officials reported no injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
