CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - During the Village Board meeting on February 6th, Allan M. Dorman, Mayor, Village of Islandia, honored two Central Islip firefighters for their heroism in responding to a call last summer.

On June 22, 2023, at approximately 3 p.m., the Central Islip Fire Department was dispatched to a residence at Sagebrush Lane. Vincent Plotino and James McMullen arrived at the scene, where an occupant was apparently choking. After first responders tried the Heimlich maneuver, Plotino placed the occupant on the floor while McMullen performed rescue breathing, to no avail. McMullen then retrieved a portable resuscitator from his vehicle and placed it over the occupant. Soon, the object became dislodged and they were able to breathe on their own.

Mayor Dorman praised Plotino and McMullen for their quick thinking and noted how their training and initiative helped save this person’s life.
