NEWBURGH, NY - The Air National Guard Fire Department alerted Orange County 911 on March 2nd shortly after 8:00 p.m., reporting an airplane crash in the Hudson River. The first report indicated that the crash occurred north of the Newburgh–Beacon Bridge.
Middle Hope Fire Department was alerted and responded, along with the Newburgh and Storm King Fire Departments. No fireboats were available. The Town of Newburgh Police Department, the Town of New Windsor Police Department, and the New York State Police also responded to the scene. Area EMS units were dispatched as well.
Two subjects from the plane were able to exit the aircraft and swim to shore near Steel Style. EMS transported the subjects to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.
A command post was established at Steel Style. New York State Police Aviation searched the river for any additional occupants who might have been in the plane. Once it was determined that only the two individuals were inside the aircraft, the aviation unit was released.
The New York State Police are investigating the incident.
