On February 4, just before 11:30 a.m., the Hernando County Fire Rescue responded to a reported vehicle fire at the Publix near Avalon on Countyline Road. Engine 3 and Battalion 1 arrived to see a fully involved SUV blazing in the parking area. Firefighters swiftly deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire, saving more damage to neighboring automobiles. There were no injuries recorded. Officials determined that the fire was caused by a mechanical breakdown.
