WASHINGTON, CT - At 12:52 a.m. on February 27th, Litchfield County Dispatch (LCD) put out the tones for Washington Fire and Ambulance to respond to New Milford Turnpike (CT Route 202) in the area of Christian Street for a garage fire. The garage was reportedly detached from the house, however 10-feet away.

Chief Ethan Labella arrived on scene within moments to find a one-story, two-bay garage, heavily involved in fire with the exposure (house) being threatened. The Chief immediately upgraded the response to a Second Alarm, adding the Bantam and Northville Fire Departments to the ticket.

First due Engine 3 with Tanker 7 from the nearby New Preston firehouse arrived shortly behind Car 1 and mounted a quick fire attack with two handlines to stop the fire from extending. The initial firefighting crew did a remarkable job cutting the fire off from the exposed house, which only suffered some melted siding and one cracked window.

The remaining Washington fire apparatus arrived from the "Depot" firehouse (HQ) and joined in the efforts. Bantam arrived with manpower, their tanker and rescue, while Northville brought both their tankers and manpower.

The garage was a complete loss. The Washington Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire and while Washington Ambulance stood by at the scene, there were no injuries. The Connecticut State Police also were present to assist.
