BREVARD COUNTY, FL — January 27th — Brevard County Fire Rescue reminded drivers that, while January is Move Over Month, the legislation requiring drivers to move over and slow down for emergency and roadside personnel applies all year. Officials stated that the purpose is to safeguard first responders, law enforcement officers, tow truck operators, and utility personnel who work in high-risk roadside areas.

When it is safe, drivers on two-lane or multi-lane roadways must shift over to the next lane, away from stopped cars with warning lights. If a lane change is not an option, drivers must slow down. On routes with posted speeds of 25 mph or above, cars should slow down by 20 mph. On lower-speed roads, drivers should slow down to 5 mph.
