MELBOURNE, FL — February 25th —The Melbourne Fire Department collaborated with Every Child A Swimmer and Brevard Public Schools to offer water safety education at Sherwood Elementary School. The training emphasized aquatic hazards, the value of swimming skills, and emergency response during both water and non-water occurrences.

Students practiced the "Reach or Throw, Don't Go" rescue method and hands-only CPR. According to officials, early schooling reduces the chance of drowning and increases young students' confidence. Drowning remains the biggest cause of accidental death among children, according to national safety data, so preventative measures must be prioritized by first responders.
