OKEECHOBEE, FL — February 15th — St. Lucie Air Rescue and Okeechobee County Fire Rescue Station 4 workers worked together to respond to a trauma alert in the Viking Prairie region. In order to provide prompt patient care, advanced therapy, and preparation for transportation to a trauma center, ground paramedics joined the air medical team.

Strong collaborations between ground EMS and air medical professionals are crucial in rural areas where outcomes might be impacted by distance, according to officials. The approach prioritized safe care transfer, patient stabilization, and communication. During critical occurrences, air medical transport facilitates high-level care and shortens the time to final treatment. Ongoing training and collaboration with regional partners enhance response, fortify teamwork, and deliver optimal community care.
