WINTER PARK, FL — February 10th — As part of its yearly World Heart Day outreach, the Winter Park Fire-Rescue Department collaborated with the Winter Park Ninth Grade Center and Winter Park High School to offer hands-only CPR instruction. Students learned how to identify cardiac arrest, dial 911, and administer efficient chest compressions from firefighters.

This year, crews helped raise youth awareness and readiness by training 1,409 students in a single day. Early CPR can double or triple survival in cardiac arrest, according to officials, thus fire and EMS departments around the country should prioritize community education. By giving kids the tools to act in an emergency, the program promotes community risk reduction. In the event of a medical emergency, ongoing collaborations with nearby schools continue to enhance results and build community relationships.
