On February 21, eighteen sixth-grade students from Russell Middle School visited the Barrow County Fire Department for an informative tour of Fire Station 6, Headquarters, and 911 Communications. The visit provided students with an inside look at day-to-day operations and the role of emergency services in the community.
Students investigated fire apparatus and equipment, met firefighters and staff, and discovered how emergency calls are received, dispatched, and managed. Telecommunicators emphasized their role in coordinating reactions and assisting troops on the ground. The hands-on experience exposed them to careers in firefighting, EMS, fire prevention, administration, and emergency communications. According to department officials, community outreach and youth engagement promote awareness and inspire the next generation of public safety personnel.
