MASTIC, NY - On Sunday, February 26th, at about 10:30 A.M., Suffolk County Police and Mastic Fire and Ambulance companies responded to a report of a MVA with entrapment and one person unconscious on Sunrise Highway, just east of Exit 58 ( William Floyd Pkwy).

On arrival, Chief of Department Gene Martucci (5-12-30) confirmed that one person was trapped in the vehicle that was wedged between the trees off the shoulder of the highway. Rescue 5-12-10 was requested to come into the scene and have the crew bring the Hurst tools up.

Firefighters went to work quickly to get the passenger side door open to gain access to the patient. Once firefighters were able to gain access, members from Mastic ambulance along with a crew from Stony Brook Hospital Medic 65 went to work assessing the patient and loading her into the ambulance.

Chief Martucci was advised by Suffolk Police that they would not be required to do any further clean up, as the police were deeming it SPI (serious personal injuries) and a crime scene at that time. The patient was taken to a local hospital by Stony Brook Hospital Medic 65.

Mastic FD Fire Police and Suffolk Police were on scene directing traffic. All fire units were back in service after about 45 minutes, and the scene was turned over to Suffolk County Police.
