HIGGSTON, GA — February 7th — Montgomery County is under a Fire Danger Statement because of low humidity and dry weather, so the Higgston Fire Department is asking locals to stay vigilant. According to officials, the weather pattern raises the possibility of grass and brush fires that spread quickly. Small sparks from machine use, outdoor burning, or discarded smoking items can travel swiftly and endanger houses and property.
Throughout the afternoon and evening, firefighters are advising locals to refrain from burning outdoors and to be aware of any possible sources of ignition. Limited moisture and dry fuels make suppression more challenging and raise the need for mutual help and local resources. First responders and the community are both protected when avoidable fires are reduced. The department advises citizens to reduce the danger of fire by taking preventative measures and according to local regulations.
