LAKELAND, FL — February 12th — A coordinated response by the Lakeland Fire Department and regional allies centered on safety and precaution was initiated by a reported suspicious package at a local business. To assess the item, Lakeland responders collaborated with the Tampa Bomb Squad, Polk County Fire Rescue HazMat, and the FBI. While experts performed testing, firefighters set up safety zones, assisted with hazardous materials operations, and readied resources for quick intervention and decontamination.

Strict procedures are followed in cases involving suspicious parcels to safeguard both the public and rescuers. Before cleaning a scene, agencies employ trained personnel to evaluate potential risks, regulate access, and isolate the area. Following a thorough assessment, the package was found to be non-hazardous, and the event was handled safely.
