Paterson 5th alarm for well involved row of homes

A 5th Alarm fire brought Fire Departments from all over Passaic County to a massive fire in Paterson Sunday night February 23rd that displaced 13 family's and 48 people and destroyed two buildings on Totowa Road. The fire began around 5 p.m. in a stretch of multi-family homes. The first arriving Chief Battalion 3 confirmed a working fire with heavy flames engulfing a three-story wood-frame structure. The fire had already begun spreading to the Delta exposure, prompting an immediate request for a 3rd alarm. Deputy 1 arrived on scene and assumed command from Battalion 3 and a 4th and 5th alarm were struck a short time later. The firefighters worked aggressively to contain the fire to the main building and the Delta exposure. Their swift efforts successfully saved the Delta 1 exposure, which sustained only minimal damage. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control after a couple hours of battling the blaze. Companies operated throughout the night extinguishing deep-seated pockets of fire. The American Red Cross provided provide food, shelter and clothing for those victims who weren't staying with relatives.
