On January 25, members of the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department's Station 6 A-shift responded to two structure fires overnight, one of which occurred early in the morning off Winterville Road. Crews were dispatched around 4:30 a.m. to a reported structure fire.

Engine 26 came and promptly extinguished the fire, averting additional damage to the home. During the operation, firefighters rescued a cat from the home. Additional units participated with suppression, search, ventilation, and overhaul to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and no risks existed. Engine 26, Engine 29, Engine 25, Engine 21, Rescue 4, Hazmat 1, Ladder 1, and Battalion 2 were among the units that responded.
