COVINGTON, GA — January 22nd — In celebration of the 100th Day of School, Newton County Fire Service joined Rocky Plains Elementary School, emphasizing community engagement and fire safety. Students read aloud and talked about fundamental safety skills with Fire Safety Specialist James Franklin and the department's fire safety mascot, Marshal. Important subjects like phoning 9-1-1, being aware of house escape plans, and the significance of functional smoke alarms were reaffirmed by firefighters.

These kinds of activities foster good relationships between students and first responders while teaching them safety skills in a familiar environment. According to officials, early fire prevention education helps families stay ready and promotes long-term community risk reduction. A crucial component of the Newton County Fire Service's objective to enhance safety and fortify ties with the community continues to be outreach initiatives at nearby schools.
