INTERLACHEN, FL — February 1st — The Florida Forest Service is receiving assistance from the Interlachen Lake Estates Station 17 Volunteer Fire Department as crews respond to several wildfires in the counties of Putnam, Marion, Gilchrist, Levy, and Alachua. In order to limit flames and safeguard residences, property, and vital infrastructure, ground units and aviation resources are being deployed. The region has seen an upsurge in wildfire activity due to dry fuels, low humidity, and strong winds.
According to officials, barrel burning and escaped yard trash have been connected to numerous fires. These circumstances make it possible for fires to spread swiftly and increase the burden on state and municipal resources. Firefighters are still keeping an eye on the weather and working with partner agencies to bolster containment efforts. Residents are advised to postpone outside burning and exercise caution when using spark-producing equipment.
