Americus, Georgia — February 19th — Volunteer firefighters from Sumter County Fire Rescue trained once a month, studying fire dynamics and behavior with a multi-compartment "Doll House" prop. Crews were able to study smoke movement, ventilation effects, backdraft, flashover, and flow pathways in a safe and controlled environment thanks to the small building. Instructors gave examples of how opening windows and doors might affect inside operations and alter fire conditions. Coordinated ventilation, communication, and smoke reading were the main topics of the course. According to officials, these practical advancements enhance firefighter safety and assist contemporary strategies without incurring the expenses of complete live-fire burns. Community people were also urged by department leaders to think about volunteering for Fire Corps, Explorer, support, and certified firefighter positions. To help new members develop their abilities and enhance Sumter County's emergency response, training and mentorship are offered.
