The Melbourne Fire Department reminds citizens that every year, thousands of homes are damaged or destroyed by fires that start in clothes dryers. According to the National Fire Protection Association, the accumulation of lint is the major cause of these incidents.
Fire officials advised that basic precautions, like as cleaning the lint filter before and after each load and inspecting dryer vents for damage or blockages, can help reduce danger. Residents should also avoid overloading dryers, maintain the space around machines free of combustible objects, and switch dryers off before leaving the house or going to bed. Officials also advise caution while drying clothes exposed to combustible substances. Contact the Melbourne Fire Prevention Office at 321-608-7915.
