THOMASTON, GA — February 10th — Students in Mrs. VanHouten's class at Upson-Lee High School participated in a fire and kitchen safety training hosted by the Thomaston Fire Department, 615 North Church Street, Thomaston, GA, 30286. The visit promoted experiential learning and community risk reduction. Daily safety inspections, how to use portable fire extinguishers correctly, and how to use fire blankets for minor kitchen fires were all taught by firefighters.

Additionally, students were taught the value of functioning carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, which are essential for preventive and early warning. A tour of the fire apparatus and a chance to put on firefighter gear were part of the event. According to officials, early education increases awareness, fortifies relationships with schools, and aids families and kids in enhancing home safety.
