ENGLEWOOD, FL — January 22nd — The E-71 A-shift crew was sent to Englewood Elementary School by the Englewood Area Fire Control District, 579 S. Indiana Ave., Englewood, FL, 34223, to watch a planned fire drill and offer comments. Following protocols and proceeding to their assigned meeting spaces, students, instructors, and staff finished the exercise in a composed and well-organized manner. School drills, according to fire officials, are in line with the National Fire Protection Association's life safety guidelines and are a crucial component of community risk reduction.
Students that receive early education are better able to comprehend emergency procedures, evacuation routes, and accountability. Families are also encouraged to practice E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills in the Home) by the department. Having two escape routes and an outdoor meeting spot increases safety and facilitates children's and families' ability to react appropriately in actual emergencies.
