NORTH PORT, FL — January 22nd — To improve search and navigation skills in low-visibility situations, North Port Fire Rescue, 4980 City Center Boulevard, 34286, held a blacked-out hose maze training at Station 84. In order to replicate actual inner fireground conditions, firefighters followed a hose line while navigating obstacles in total darkness. Coordinated mobility, air control, and communication were the main objectives of the exercise.

Regular zero-visibility training is encouraged by national fire service guidelines, particularly those set forth by the National Fire Protection Association, to prepare teams for smoke-filled buildings where orientation may be challenging. The hands-on progression, according to officials, enhances decision-making, situational awareness, and firefighter safety. Ongoing training guarantees that crews are always ready to work efficiently and facilitate a successful search and rescue during emergency situations.
