HANSON, MA - Around 7:00 A.M. on the cold and rainy morning of Tuesday, February 21st, the Hanson Fire Department responded to a reported motor vehicle accident at 1283 Whitman Street (Route-58). Companies arrived to find a single-vehicle accident involving a car that had driven off the road and crashed into the side of a single-family occupied dwelling.

The car struck a full trash barrel and narrowly missed a large tree before smashing into the side of the house. When the vehicle struck the house, it also sheared off the gas service to the house. The gas and electrical companies were requested to the scene with a push, along with the building commissioner. The vehicle appeared to take out parts of the building's foundation. The lone occupant of the vehicle was a priority-1 trauma patient, and once extricated, was transported to the South Shore Hospital with an additional paramedic on-board.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Hanson Police Department with the assistance of the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department BCI Unit. The Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was initially requested to respond, but was later cancelled. Route-58 was closed for some time while the accident was investigated and the utilities were secured.
