MUNSON, FL — February 9th — A brush fire that threatened residences in the Indian Ford neighborhood near Walther Road and Henderson Smith prompted the Munson Volunteer Fire and Rescue District to respond. When crews arrived, they discovered that the fire was expanding across wooded areas. They started working with the Florida Forest Service to preserve structures.

Santa Rosa Emergency Management, NAS Whiting Field Fire Department, Berrydale Volunteer Fire Department, and Skyline Fire Rescue all offered mutual help. After burning about 28 acres, the fire was contained by using two tractor-plow units to draw containment lines. There were no recorded structural losses or injuries. The Florida Department of Agriculture law enforcement agency is still investigating the cause. Because of the dry weather, officials are still advising caution when burning outdoors.
