On February 15, firefighters from the St. Marys Fire Department took part in the Firefighter Challenge at the 2026 Southeast Georgia Bridge Run, running the 5K race while dressed in full turnout gear. The team represented both the department and the fire service during the physically rigorous competition.

Team St. Marys Firefighters finished second, exhibiting outstanding collaboration, preparedness, and endurance. The event demonstrated the devotion and dedication required in the fire service, both on and off duty. Firefighter Chris McCabe, who joined the agency a few months ago, was also recognized for his performance, placing third in the individual challenge. According to department officials, the incident exemplifies the virtues of honor, tenacity, commitment, and compassion that firefighters use to serve their communities.
