Fire Held After Three-Hour Response

Chiefland Fire Rescue, Fanning Springs Fire Rescue, the Levy County Department of Public Safety, and the Florida Forest Service-Waccasassa Forestry Center all responded to the 2500 block of Old Fanning Road for a reported outdoor fire. Upon arrival, personnel discovered that around 25 acres had already burnt, with the fire advancing west.
Trenton Fire and Bronson Fire were asked to provide further aid with containment efforts by command. Firefighters, brush units, and forestry crews collaborated to build control lines to prevent further spread. The fire was extinguished in approximately three hours after spreading across roughly 100 acres. On scene were Engine 71, Truck 71, Brush 71, Tanker 77, Engine 77, Brush 25 from Trenton, Brush 70, Rescue 7, Battalion 1, two forestry dozers, and a forestry supervisor. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
