On January 22, Chiefland Fire Rescue, together with Fanning Springs Fire Rescue and the Levy County Department of Public Safety, responded to a reported gas leak at Aldi. Crews responded and confirmed an active leak, forcing the command to call on the Gainesville Fire Rescue Hazmat Team for technical assistance and monitoring.
Firefighters secured the area, assessed potential risks, and maintained the safety of personnel and customers as more resources arrived. The Hazmat team helped with the detection and mitigation operations. Officials eventually concluded that the leak was caused by an air conditioning line. There were no injuries reported, and the scene was turned over to facility personnel once the hazard was contained.
