THOMASTON, GA — January 16th — During a Synergy field trip centered on fire safety and community education, first grade children from Thomaston Campus were hosted by the Thomaston Fire Department, located at 615 North Church Street, Thomaston, GA. Firefighters gave a tour of the station, gave equipment demonstrations, and described their everyday duties.

In addition to learning how to phone 9-1-1 in an emergency, students also learned about smoke detectors and how to prepare for a home escape. Early instruction, according to officials, can lessen anxiety and increase awareness when firemen respond to incidents. School outreach is still a crucial component of community risk reduction, according to department executives. Initiatives such as this foster future interest in fire and emergency services, improve preparation, and build relationships with nearby schools.
