WASHINGTON, GA — January 19th — Residents were notified by Wilkes County GA Emergency Services, 105 Marshal St, Washington, GA, United States, 30673, that local government offices, such as the Wilkes County courthouse and the City of Washington, were closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The government holiday also resulted in the closure of banks and USPS services.

Operations for emergency response went on uninterrupted. To provide coverage and respond to occurrences around the county, law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services personnel stayed on duty. The day, according to officials, honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s teachings on service, unity, and peace. In order to promote community safety via respect and collaboration, residents were urged to consider those ideals.
