PALMYRA, NY — January 20th — Captain Erdeli and Lieutenant Dandino have successfully finished specialized ice and cold water rescue training, according to the Palmyra Fire Department, located at 615 East Main St. During winter situations on frozen ponds, rivers, and waterways, the program concentrated on coordinated efforts, victim removal, and personal safety.

In addition to scenario-based exercises to improve decision-making and teamwork, the training covered the usage of cold water rescue suits, rope systems, and rescue sleds. According to officials, this accreditation enhances the department's capacity to assist mutual assistance partners throughout Wayne County and respond to ice occurrences. Ongoing training is still a top priority to make sure firefighters are equipped to work safely and effectively during high-risk cold water crises because winter weather and outdoor activities are prevalent in the area.
