SHIRLEY, NY - At approximately 6:30 P.M. on Super Bowl Sunday, the Brookhaven Fire Department and Shirley Ambulance Company were activated for a reported residential structure fire on Lama Drive, off of Propose Road.

1st Assistant Chief Giuseppe Loiacono was advised by fire-com that there was a package on fire on the porch and that PD was on scene requesting a rush on fire. On arrival, Chief Loiacono was met with heavy fire showing from the front of the house and quickly dropped the working fire and started requesting mutual aid to the scene.

Ladder 1 (5-3-1) and Engine 9 (5-3-9) were the first trucks on scene and quickly went to work pulling two lines and getting a primary search done. All firefighters were requested by command to exit the building due to a partial roof collapse and went into exterior operations.

The fire was brought under control at 7:30 P.M. with assistance from the Mastic Fire Department, Mastic Beach Fire Department, Yaphank Fire Department and Center Moriches Fire Department. Standby crew was provided by the Ridge Fire Department, and Shirley Ambulance provided firefighter rehab.

The scene was turned over to the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals and Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad. The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
