SHELDON, NY — February 13th — Members of the Harris Corners Fire Department, 585 US-20A, Strykersville, NY, completed SCBA controlled breathing training to improve air management and firefighter safety. The session focused on techniques that help reduce heart rate, calm the nervous system, and extend air supply during interior operations and emergency situations. Firefighters worked through practical scenarios while monitoring air consumption, communication, and situational awareness.

These skills are important during high-stress and low-air conditions, especially in rural departments where resources may be limited. Training officers said regular SCBA drills support safe fireground performance and prepare members for real-world incidents. Ongoing education and hands-on practice remain a priority as Harris Corners continues building readiness and operational effectiveness.
