WESTPORT, MA — January 29th —The Westport Fire Department spent a portion of the day cleaning snow from hydrants in the northern half of town, including Route 6 and other side streets. Crews identified essential hydrants to support operations in areas where access is critical.

Much of Westport lacks a municipal hydrant infrastructure, necessitating tanker shuttles and water transportation from cleared hydrants or cisterns during building fires. Maintaining access points during the winter is part of Massachusetts departments' seasonal readiness measures.
