AYER, MA — February 5th — The Lincoln Hills Development was the scene of a construction blasting incident that the Ayer Fire Department responded to. A piece of fly rock damaged a shed on a nearby residential property during the boom. There were no reported injuries. As necessary during blasting operations, a fire department detail officer was there and reported the occurrence right away. The Massachusetts State Fire Marshal Code Compliance Division and the Ayer Police Department were called in to conduct an investigation. Blasting was put on hold while it was reviewed. Later, because of traffic and safety concerns, town officials issued a halt construction order for the project. After talks with the developer and public safety officials, further details will be made public.
