ASHLAND, MA — January 27th — In honor of the liberation of Auschwitz on January 27, 1945, the Ashland Fire Department observed International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Together with several subcamps, Auschwitz consisted of three main camps: Auschwitz I, Auschwitz II-Birkenau, and Auschwitz III. During the Holocaust, many innocent people were murdered at Birkenau. This day was created by the UN to commemorate the victims and for awareness-raising about what happened during World War II.

The observance represents a dedication to preserving human dignity and saving lives for those working in the emergency services community. The department honored survivors, paid tribute to the victims, and emphasized the value of respect, service, and opposing hatred on January 27.
