CANTON, CT - The Canton CT Fire and EMS Department responded on February 5th to a reported structure fire near Dowd Avenue and Route 44. Initial reports suggested possible explosions. Upon arrival, firemen discovered a greenhouse fire in the rear lot and began suppression efforts. Because of the fertilizers kept inside the structure, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Farmington Valley Health District were alerted and dispatched to the scene. The Town of Canton Fire Marshal's Office continues to investigate the cause of the fire. The Avon Fire Department, which operates from Canton's Station 1, supplied station coverage throughout the incident.
