January 5, 2026 — East Brentwood Fire Department units were dispatched at 5:43 p.m. to provide mutual aid to the Central Islip Fire Department for a working commercial structure fire at 3 Oval Drive in Islandia. Initial reports indicated a fire in the compressor room of Big Apple Sign Supply, with smoke visible upon arrival. Firefighters confirmed active fire in the two/three corner of the approximately 100-by-200-foot commercial building. An interior attack was initiated but conditions necessitated a transition to defensive exterior operations. East Brentwood Ladder 3-3-3 conducted truck company operations, including aerial positioning and ventilation support, while Ambulance 3-3-8 staged and later operated on scene. Chiefs 3-3-31 and 3-3-32 also responded. The fire was brought under control approximately 90 minutes into the incident, and all East Brentwood units were released by Central Islip command at 8:08 p.m. One Central Islip firefighter was evaluated on scene for high blood pressure and refused further medical attention. More than 20 departments assisted at the scene, including neighboring fire departments, volunteer ambulance corps, Town of Islip Fire Marshals, Town of Islip HazMat, Suffolk County Police Arson Squad, town fire coordinators, and Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services. East Brentwood officials stated they remain proud to support surrounding communities through coordinated mutual aid responses.
