February 7, 2026 — This weekend, the Bayport Fire Department is hosting advanced ice rescue training as approximately 50 Ice Rescue Technicians from across the Island gather to pursue Level II certification. The intensive program builds on foundational rescue skills, focusing on advanced techniques, coordination, and safety in hazardous cold-water and ice conditions. The training highlights the importance of preparedness and reinforces the message that no ice should ever be considered safe, as responders continue working to enhance their ability to protect lives during winter emergencies.
