The Deposit Fire Department will have a Rail Car Incident Response Course on Saturday, March 14, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Deposit Fire Station. The training, known as AWR-147, is intended to prepare emergency responders to handle freight rail disasters, including those involving hazardous chemicals. Instruction focuses on rail car construction, danger recognition, and response considerations, with a particular emphasis on the issues faced by rural departments.
The course is free, however participants must provide their own meals and travel expenses. Registration is required through the New York State Homeland Security and Emergency Services learning management system and is open until February 21. The seminar is intended to improve regional readiness for rail-related catastrophes.
